Surfers of Japan is a passion project. after surfing here for nearly 20 years and having to take a break from working on documentaries due to Covid. I decided to grab my cameras and my surfboards and hit the road in my van to capture what surfing in Japan is really all about.
I am not a vlogger, have always much preferred the Taylor Steele style of surf film.

The morning after super typhoon #10 Haishen slammed in southern Japan, the surfers of Miyazaki are out at a super fun beach break enjoying some clean swell, even as most of the area is without power from the storm just hours before. Pure Miyazaki surfing style and culture at it's best, all style and smiles.
The famous and rarely seen big wave spot known as Curren's point gets turned on by Super typhoon Haishen September 5th 2020. With a lot of anticipantion in the air, Surfers flock to the various protected surf spots around Miyazaki, while a select few wait for the swell to hit the famous big wave reef. While it wasn't as big as it gets or as clean as you would want, it was insane out and some killer big waves were ridden down the reef that day.
